SlaterTater 4 Freedom Drawing Contest!

May 9th, 2010 | Posted by Mike

Our troops love to receive care packages filled with the tastes and comforts of home. But last year in every box we put something that touched their hearts more than anything: pictures drawn by our SlaterTaters.

This year we’re going to send out more original works of SlaterTater art than ever!

Enter the “SlaterTater for Freedom Drawing Contest”! It’s easy, on a regular sized piece of paper (something we can easily fit in a box) ask your kids to draw “America”. That’s it. Whatever that means to them. A drawing of our troops, the American flag, a beautiful spring day, the family, whatever creative energy the word “America” stirs up, put it on paper!

We’ll pick a few winners and invite them on stage during the Freedom Celebration on June 5th.

For our Junior SlaterRaiders, feel free to draw something if you’re artistically inclined, but your task is to write a short paragraph answering the question: “What is America?” Piece of cake, right? The winner gets to read their thoughts on stage (or if you’re nervous, we can record it and play it for everyone).

PARENTS, the purpose of this is to start a dialogue with your kids. What are “troops”? Why are we paying tribute to them? What makes America so unique anyway? Get this conversation going, AND HAVE FUN!

You can scan and E-mail your mini-Picasso’s brilliance to Slater@wtjs.com, or mail or drop them off at the station: 122 Radio Road, Jackson, TN 38301. Make sure to include the artist’s name, age and contact info. Good luck and again –most importantly – HAVE FUN!

Here are some of the troops who received our care packages last year. In this picture, check out the first thing they see when they open the box: our SlaterTaters’ drawings and letters!

Hey Taters

This is my favorite page of the entire site. The biggest reason we do this show everyday is for our kids. This will be the page JUST for them. All of the exclusive SlaterTater and Junior SlaterRaider content will be posted right here. OF COURSE, family friendly!

    Hey Mike,
I listen to your show every morning on my way to work…I have also gotten alot of my co-workers tuned in to ya! I appreciate your blog for the SlaterTaters! I have two in my household…Kaylie and Piper. I’m sending you a copy of an email I sent to Gov. Bredesen today I thought you might find amusing and interesting at the same time since I know this matter probably affects many others besides myself. Check it out…it involves my oldest SlaterTater Kaylie Grace. I love your show….it gives me ammunition to argue with the liberals at my workplace. Thank the good Lord I don’t have too many to deal with! :)
    Sincerely,
    Alicia
